2014 Royal Melbourne Show

Syenna Vasilopoulos from Kangaroo Ground in Victoria rode her beautiful, 'High Fashion' to claim the KG Luke Equestrian Turnout Class open to girls and now in these enlightened times to boys 15 and under 18 years.

Fiona McIntyre was first out in the famous Garryowen Turnout class for Equestriennes (that's lady riders, men not permitted in this one) 18 Years and over. She is pictured aboard her , 'Sirmione' by Encosta de Lago that won over $1.8 million in race earnings.

Laura Thomas, pictured aboard her, 'Taittinger' was one of eight first time riders in the Garryowen this year and was a surprise exclusion from the top six.,

Heidi Pickstock rode Dale Plumb's beautiful, 'DP Amazing' to fourth place in the Garryowen.

Kristen Nicholls from Stanhope in Victoria is pictured aboard her, 'Willowmere Talent' during the 2014 and 80th edition of the Garryowen Memorial Equestrienne Turnout class.

Janelle Sloane from Winchlesea in Victoria is pictured aboard her , 'Devine Victoree' during the 80th Anniversary edition of the Garryowen Equestrienne Turnout class.

Jemima Draper rode Jodie van Breugel's very well performed Show Hunter Galloway, 'Salisbury My Guy' in the 80th edition of the famous Garryowen turnout class. later this combination took out third prize in the John Lithgow Turnout.

Successful showing competitor, Kerryn Golder from Horsham in Victoria is pictured aboard her well performed, 'Chandon Park Contender' during the 2014 Garryowen Turnout class. Later Kerryn and Contender took sixth place in the Esquire Turnout class.

Jennifer Emanuel from Lardner in Gippsland has had a great show with her Australian Stock Horse, 'Cannibal Creek William'. Jennifer and her Champion Ridden Stock Horse are pictured during the judging of the 80th edition of the famous Garryowen Turnout class.

Rebecca Richards is pictured aboard her very well performed former racehorse and Show Hunter, 'Dymondz' during the 80th of the Garryowen Turnout class. They went on to take third place in the Esquire Tutnout class which is similar to the Garryowen but where "the exhibits must be the bone fide property of the rider or their immediate family".

Kristen White really lives up to the the Violet Murrell legacy. She is an all round horsewoman,( jumping, hacking ,dressage) and today took fifth place in the Garryowen riding Georgie Kellock's former racehorse, 'The Russian'.

Sue Thompson who owned and rode the Champion Galloway Hack earlier in the show is pictured aboard her well performed hack, 'Concerto' during the judging of the Garryowen Equestrienne Turnout class.

Surprisingly Annabel Mulready's 'DP Mayfair' has not been sighted in a hack class, albeit for a brief moment unplaited! They are pictured in their first Garryowen Equestrian turnout class riding her beautiful, 'DP Mayfair'.

Becky Jenkins, another talented all round horsewoman now living in Queensland is pictured aboard the home bred (to jump), 'Fairview Elevation' during the Garryowen Equestrienne Turnout class. Elevation is owned by Becky and Stuart Jenkins and Brian and Faye Craig.

Rose McEvoy made a beautiful picture aboard, the Romsey Park and Jamie Carson nomination, 'HB Beautiful Encounter' during the 2014 and 80th edition of the Garryowen Turnout class. Rose took third place..

Shae Hanger won the Garryowen Trophy in 2008 and again today, this year riding the ex racehorse, 'Chosen One' by Choisir.

Penny Ahern who won the Garryowen in 2003, took sixth place this year riding Jessica Dunn's, 'Montilla'.

Stephanie Barrington won the Garryowen in 2011 and was at very short odds today riding her Open Over 16.2hh winner, 'SLM Orlando'. They almost made it a double, but had to settle for second place this year. A little later Stephanie and Orlando took out the John Lithgow Turnout class for Ladies 18-25 years and SLM Orlando was declared Reserve Champion Hack.

Was Jeremy Roberts excited about the Garryowen? What do you think? Actually Jeremy was trying to keep the crowd entertained during the end of the Garryowen workouts and the presentation and there was need for entertainment.

Rebekah Carrolan from Riverslea in Victoria and her 'London Court' were declared Best First Time Garryowen competitor.

Dedicated South Australian showing enthusiasts, Jill and Robert Best came prepared for the Melbourne weather.

Kerry Clarke from Mansfield in Victoria was second to work in the Pope Cup aboard the typey Thoroughbred ex racehorse, 'Distanzia.

Jessica Dunn is pictured during the Pope Cup riding her, 'Montilla' that won the class for Open Hack 16-16.2hh and later appeared in the Championship ride off with Clint Bilson in the saddle. The Col AV Pope Cup for "horses showing Thoroughbred qualities" did not qualify the winner for the Championship ride off as it used to in years gone by.

Bettina Stanton from Bletchley in SA is pictured aboard her lovely Thoroughbred gelding, 'Vienna Night Devine' during the judging of the Pope Cup.

Joh Bailey and Michael Christie's beautiful, 'Mikimoto' ridden by Michael, worked very well to claim the Col AV Pope Cup.

Joh Bailey and Michael Christie's 'Mikimoto' took out the Picasso Trophy presented by Vicky Lawrie to the Most Successful Saddle Horse at the 2014 Royal Melbourne Show.

2014 was certainly the Kathleen Mullan Royal Melbourne Show. What better way to cap off a brilliant show than to claim the "Mac" Greaves Hack Championship with her Best Novice and 15-15.2hh winner, 'Kolbeach Roulette'. The judge, Maree Tomkinson declared that "he had three good paces and was a lovely, correct type".

Margot Haynes is pictured aboard Vicky Lawrie and Mary Bawden's Open 15.2-16hh winner, 'Worldly' during the Champion Hack judging.

Alexa Ward from Coldstream in Victoria won the Lady's Hack class and today took fourth place in the Esquire Turnout class with her beautiful mare, 'OEH Eloquence'. They are pictured during the Champion Hack judging.

Michelle Paynter and her, gleaming 'Grandeur Heart N Soul' were second in the Open 15-15.2hh and were invited in to the arena to work for Reserve Champion. They worked well but did not claim the number two hack spot.

An absolutely delighted Kathleen Mullan from Melton gives her 2014 Melbourne Royal Champion Hack, 'Kolbeach Roulette' a congratulatory pat. Not only , but also, Kathleen and Roulette also claimed the Esquire Turnout class.
