2014 World Equestrian Games

The hero of the day was 19 year old Bertram Allan representing Ireland. He rode the appropriately named, 'Molly Malone V' by Kannan to post the fastest clear of the day to win the Table C. Bertram has had great success as a Junior and Young Rider in Europe and is trained by Marcus Ehning. The Irish Team hold seventh place.

Second last  to go, the USA's Beezie Madden was worth waiting for. The world's great stylish jumped a perfect round aboard 'Cortes' to take fourth place and a good position to progress through the competition.

Sweden's Rolf-Goran Bengtsson is beautiful to watch. He rode the Caretino stallion, 'Cassal ASK' to post a great round and hold fifth place and be very well positioned at the end of day one.

Bruce Goodin is the lone showjumper for New Zealand. He is pictured aboard the talented Cento mare, 'Centina 10' during the Table C. They finished down the line.

2012 Olympic Champion, Steve Guerdat caused a huge intake of breath when after a communication breakdown, 'Nino des Buissonnets' refused at the plank double 8A. Despite that they jumped beautifully, but are somewhat down the line and the Swiss Team are in 18th place.

1998 World Champion, Rodrigo Pessoa jumped a lovely round riding the Hanoverian, 'Status' to sit in 44th place after the first round of jumping today.

Watching World number one, Scott Brash  ride Lord and lady Harris', 'Hello Sanctos', it is hard to imagine that they would ever lower a fence. However they did today at number 11 and finished the first round in 43rd place. Great Britain are currently in 11th place.

German Team veteran, Ludger Beerbaum is pictured over one of the fences in the Mont St Michel complex. This fence six came down quite often, but not on this occasion. Ludger jumped a good, fast clear aboard, 'Chiara 222' for 24th place. Hard to win a ribbon here.

In the Australian team at last, Amy Graham jumped a super clear round aboard her, 'Bella Baloubet'. She rode a forward and accurate Table C and Bella responded to the call. They finished the best of the Australian Team in 56th place of the 153 starters. The Australian Team after Round one is in 19th place of 33 teams.

The USA's McLain ward is always beautiful to watch. He is pictured aboard the gelding, 'Rothchild' by Artos jumping in to the Cathedral Double, complete with stained glass windows. He posted a fast round, but a fence down and the addition of four seconds saw them finish the first round of jumping in 27th place.

Dutchman and Sydney Olympic Individual Gold Medalist, Jeroen Dubbeldam rode 'Zenith' by Rash R to post a super and quick round, clear in 79.52 to finish the first Jumping Qualifier in tenth place.

The German team is keen to keep hold of its WEGTeam Gold Medal won in Kentucky four years ago. Christian Ahlmann got the off to a good start jumping a great clear round aboard the Contendro 1 stallion, 'Codex One'. Today the competition begins for both the Team and Individual Medals with scores accumulating over the next four days of competition.
