2014 World Equestrian Games

The hero of the day was 19 year old Bertram Allan representing Ireland. He rode the appropriately named, 'Molly Malone V' by Kannan to post the fastest clear of the day to win the Table C. Bertram has had great success as a Junior and Young Rider in Europe and is trained by Marcus Ehning. The Irish Team hold seventh place.

Second last to go, the USA's Beezie Madden was worth waiting for. The world's great stylish jumped a perfect round aboard 'Cortes' to take fourth place and a good position to progress through the competition.

Australian Team member, James Paterson-Robinson is pictured aboard, 'Boris III' during the Table C. They had a couple down and finished down the line.

Sweden's Rolf-Goran Bengtsson is beautiful to watch. He rode the Caretino stallion, 'Cassal ASK' to post a great round and hold fifth place and be very well positioned at the end of day one.

Bruce Goodin is the lone showjumper for New Zealand. He is pictured aboard the talented Cento mare, 'Centina 10' during the Table C. They finished down the line.

2012 Olympic Champion, Steve Guerdat caused a huge intake of breath when after a communication breakdown, 'Nino des Buissonnets' refused at the plank double 8A. Despite that they jumped beautifully, but are somewhat down the line and the Swiss Team are in 18th place.

1998 World Champion, Rodrigo Pessoa jumped a lovely round riding the Hanoverian, 'Status' to sit in 44th place after the first round of jumping today.

Olympic Team Silver Medalist, Gerco Schroder rode, 'Glock's London N.O.P' to 11th place in the Table C and first jumping competition of the FEI Alltech 2014 WEG Normandy.

Watching World number one, Scott Brash ride Lord and lady Harris', 'Hello Sanctos', it is hard to imagine that they would ever lower a fence. However they did today at number 11 and finished the first round in 43rd place. Great Britain are currently in 11th place.

German Team veteran, Ludger Beerbaum is pictured over one of the fences in the Mont St Michel complex. This fence six came down quite often, but not on this occasion. Ludger jumped a good, fast clear aboard, 'Chiara 222' for 24th place. Hard to win a ribbon here.

Australia's Edwina Tops-Alexander has a determined look and she posted a good clear round for the team riding the ten year old Vigo D'Arsouilles gelding, 'Ego Van Orti'. They are in 62nd place after day one, but it is early days yet for this WEG competition.

Frenchman, Patrice Delaveau really go the crowd going this afternoon. He rode the Quick Star stallion,'Orient Express HDC' to post the second fastest time of the day. Much to the enormous delight of the crowd, the French Team hold the lead after day one.

Belgium's Pieter Devos is pictured aboard, 'Dream of India Greenfield'. The Belgian team holds eighth place after day one of competition.

Henrik von Eckermann jumped a good clear aboard the former, Ludger Beerbaum ride, 'Gotha FHR' by Goldfever to help the Swedish Team hold top spot after the first day of showjumping competition.

Jan Tops trains the team from Qatar and it shows. Hamad Ali Mohamed A Al Attiyah jumped a good clear aboard the stallion, 'Whitaker' by Clinton. The QatariTeam holds tenth place after day one.

Germany's Daniel Deusser jumped a super round aboard the gelding, 'Cornet D'Amour' in a time of 78.41 seconds to hold seventh place after the first competition. The German Team is in fourth place after day one.

In the Australian team at last, Amy Graham jumped a super clear round aboard her, 'Bella Baloubet'. She rode a forward and accurate Table C and Bella responded to the call. They finished the best of the Australian Team in 56th place of the 153 starters. The Australian Team after Round one is in 19th place of 33 teams.

Ibrahim Bisharat representing Jordan as an Individual is pictured aboard ,'Emmanuel' over the first Alltech fence in the first showjumping competition today.

Oliver Philippaerts is pictured aboard the beautiful Cassini 1 stallion, 'Cabrio van de Heffinck' during the first showjumping round of the 2014 WEG. They had one fence down and finished down the line.

Martin Rodriguez Vanni from Uruguay is pictured aboard 'Zilverstar VDL' having a bit of trouble at the spooky Normandy Cliffs wall at number five. This fence caused quite abit of strife, especially during the morning session.

Marcus Ehning jumped a super round for Germany aboard the Cornet Obolensky stallion, 'Cornado NRW'. They hold 29th place after the first round.

The USA's McLain ward is always beautiful to watch. He is pictured aboard the gelding, 'Rothchild' by Artos jumping in to the Cathedral Double, complete with stained glass windows. He posted a fast round, but a fence down and the addition of four seconds saw them finish the first round of jumping in 27th place.

Jamie Kermond was first out for the Australian team aboard Scott and Deborah Massey's Cassini 1 stallion, 'Quiet Cassini'. They rolled the front pole of the first fence, The Alltech oxer, but after that jumped a good, scopey round. They are pictured jumping in to 13A, The Cathedral double.

HH Prince Faisal Al Shalan is pictured jumping a beautiful fence aboard the Concorde stallion, 'Talan'. They jumped clear, but in quite a slow time.

French Team member, Simon Delestre got the partisan crowd going this morning with a good clear round aboard the Selle Francais stallion, 'Classic Bois Margot'. It was a good team performance but they did not finish in the top ten.

Dutchman and Sydney Olympic Individual Gold Medalist, Jeroen Dubbeldam rode 'Zenith' by Rash R to post a super and quick round, clear in 79.52 to finish the first Jumping Qualifier in tenth place.

Japanese rider, Satoshi Hirao and 'Ulano' a stallion by Indoctro make a beautiful jump over the Normandy Farmhouses during the first round of jumping at WEG 2014.

Recognise this horse? Yes it is the beautiful ex Chris Chugg mount, 'Vivant'. Ridden by Cassio Rivetti for Ukraine, Vivant was ridden well for a lovely clear round.

The German team is keen to keep hold of its WEGTeam Gold Medal won in Kentucky four years ago. Christian Ahlmann got the off to a good start jumping a great clear round aboard the Contendro 1 stallion, 'Codex One'. Today the competition begins for both the Team and Individual Medals with scores accumulating over the next four days of competition.

Veteran British Team Member, Michael Whitaker jumped a good round aboard, 'Viking', a KWPM gelding by Jacomar. He was, as always quick, but his tendency to add strides saw him finish a little down the line.
