2015 Royal Melbourne Show

Briony Payne-Randel would have been up very early as she was first out in the Garryowen this morning riding the beautiful Pope Cup winner Entourage. Briony finished in fourth place. The early morning panic would not have been helped by the fact that the memorial gardenias did not arrive and plastic substitutes had to be worn. Is this the beginning of the end?

Amelia Skilbeck and 'Phoenix Aura' were in the first group this morning. There were four groups and 34 riders in all; the most in the Garryowen for a few years.

Career woman and 2011 Garryowen winner, Stephanie Barrington looks uncharacteristically serious aboard 'SLM Orlando'. Steph was a pre post favourite, but you could have thrown a blanket over the first three and Steph was third.

Ali Berwick won the Garryowen in 2012 and almost did again today aboard 'France'. But the stars did not quite align and she had to settle for second place this year.

'Chosen One' Shae Hanger, a great, great niece of Violet Murrell claimed back to back Garryowen victories riding her Thoroughbred gelding, 'Chosen One'. This victory made it three wins so far for the Somerville rider who went for it after only two weeks in the saddle following hospitalisation.

Laura Mow's 'LP Dancer' demonstrated some lovely movement during their Garryowen workout.

'Cannibal Creek William' Jennifer Emmanuel is pictured aboard her Australian Stock Horse, 'Cannibal Creek William'.

Popular rider and now university student, Lily McEvoy took time off from studying to ride Paul Austin and Sue Stafford's, 'Pandemonium'.

Heidi Pickstock rode Dale Plumb's beautiful 'DP Amazing' to take sixth place.

She wears it well. Shae Hanger was delighted to have taken out her third Garryowen title. Twice with her Off The Track Thoroughbred, Chosen One and once with War Wind.

Alexa Ward from Coldstream rode her lovely, 'OEH Eloquence' to take fifth place. Later in the day Alexa won the Esquire Turnout.
