2016 Sydney International Horse Trials

Life does go on, but due to the tragic death of Caitlyn Fischer last weekend, the atmosphere at the re run of the Sydney Three Day Event Two and Three Star classes was a somber affair. Olympic selection is at stake, but whether or not this event was worth the effort will be determined on Sunday afternoon. Shane Rose has two horses in both the CCI and CIC Three competitions and topped the leader board in both after the dressage phase. Shane is pictured aboard his 2015 Adelaide CCI Four Star winner, 'CP Qualified' that ;leads the CIC Three Star field with 38.60 penalties.

Stuart Tinney also has multiple rides and is pictured aboard his lovely , imported, 'Carlchen' that holds fifth place in the CIC3* after the dressage phase with 45.40 penalties.

Shenae Lowings from WA has multiple rides at the Sydney Three Day Event and is pictured aboard her Thoroughbred, 'Ballyhoo' that holds sixth place after the CIC3* dressage phase with 50.9 penalties.

Hayley Frielick makes an attractive picture aboard her Thoroughbred, 'My Happiness'. They hold tenth place in the CIC3* after the dressage phase with 63.5 penalties. Let's hope the horse lives up to his name in the next two days.

Judith Clarke slipped a place in a week and the CIC3* dressage leader last week had to settle for second place today riding her talented and typey, 'Diablito' with 38.70 penalties.

Australian resident, but New Zealand national, Blair Richardson is pictured aboard his Thoroughbred, 'Mavrick' during the CIC3* dressage phase. They hold seventh place with 58.8 penalties.

Well non eventing personality, Gordon Bishop is pictured aboard his , 'Moves Like Jagger' during the dressage phase of the CIC3*. They hold eighth place with 62.00 penalties.

Successful Victorian dressage rider, Robert Palm is pictured aboard his well named Copabella Visage gelding, 'Visual laughter' during the dressage phase of the CIC3* dressage phase. They hold ninth place with 62.50 penalties.

The flags are flying at half mast in memory of Caitlyn Fischer who tragically died on the cross country course last weekend. All concerned do not need flags to remember Caitlyn, but it is a nice gesture.

The 2014 Adelaide CCI Four Star winners, Jessica Manson and 'Legal Star' from WA are pictured during the dressage phase of the CCI3*. The Australian Stock Horse bred gelding holds eighth place heading in to the cross country tomorrow.

Well known NSW horseman, Andrew Barnett rode , 'Bradgate Park Dante' to fifth place after the dressage phase of the CIC2* competition with a score of 47.60.

Well known NSW eventing rider, Shaun Dillon rode his 'GV Anzac' to hold sixth place in the CIC2* competition with a dressage score of 52.10.

At least the atmosphere was quiet for the competitors. The atmosphere at the re run of the Sydney Three Day Event was subdued following the tragedy last week.
