Shane Rose Jumped a super round aboard, 'CP Qualified' , but a momentary lapse which saw them appear on the wrong side of the running lane earned them a costly 12.4 time penalties relegating them down a place to second in the CIC3* after the second phase. Not to worry as Shane assumed first place with his Vivant gelding, 'Virgil' that with the addition of just 5.6 time penalties and the best run of the day moved from fourth to first place with a post cross country score of 46.90.

Stuart Tinney rode a cautious round aboard the talented import, 'Carlchen'. They jumped clear, but the addition of 16.4 time penalties saw them drop from fifth after the dressage phase to sixth place in the CIC3* heading in to the final jumping phase tomorrow.

Shenae Lowings from WA and her Thoroughbred, 'Ballyhoo' jumped the second best cross country in the CIC3* with just the addition of six time penalties. They hold sixth place heading in to the final jumping phase with 56.90 penalties.

Hayley Frielick is pictured aboard her Thoroughbred , 'My Happiness' during the CIC3* cross country. Caution was the order of the day at the re run of the Sydney Three Day Event and after three stops on course, Hayley and My Happiness were asked to walk home.

The somber atmosphere on cross country day was added to by the gloom caused by nearby back burning. Despite that Judith Clarke jumped a good round aboard her super, 'Diablito'. They incurred 16 CIC3* cross country time penalties and slipped from second to third place with 54.90 penalties.

Popular eventing rider, Gordon Bishop from the Hunter Valley is pictured making a splash in the second water on the CIC3* course aboard his , 'Moves Like Jagger'. Unfortunately they missed a jump on the course and had to walk home.

Shane Rose jumped a super round aboard his Vivant gelding, 'Virgil'. They incurred just 5.6 time penalties, the best run of the day in his class to take the CIC3* lead with 46.90 penalties.

Sonja Johnson did not drive all the way from Albany in WA to just canter around. Sonja is pictured aboard Elizabeth Nicholson's eight year old relative CCI 3* newcomer, 'Misty Isle Valentino'. They jumped clear with the addition of just 0.4 time penalties to move from sixth place to second with 49.40 penalties.

Three Star Technical Delegate, Geoff Sinclair and President of the Three Star Ground Jury, Christoph Hess (GER) keep a close eye and ear on proceedings during the cross country.

Queensland rider, Madeline Wilson pictured aboard her talented UK import, 'Mumbo Jumbo 1V' had an unlucky run out at the second water complex on course for the addition of 20 jumping penalties. With time added they head to the final jumping phase tomorrow in seventh place with 85.50 penalties.

Alex Townsend is pictured aboard her super, imported Darco mare, 'Parodie' that jumped clear around the CCI3* course. They incurred a number of time penalties and hold tenth place going in to the final jumping phase tomorrow.

Seumas Marwood and his talented mare, 'Wild Oats' negotiated the gloom and were almost home when they missed a fence on the CCI3* course which resulted in elimination.

Another good cross county rider from WA, Jessica Mason and her part Australian Stock Horse, 'Legal Star' jumped a super CCI3* round to incur just 2.4 time penalties. They head in to the final jumping phase tomorrow in fourth place with 57.40 penalties.

Hazel Shannon and 'Clifford' looked supremely confident on the CCI3* course today . They jumped clear with the addition of just 2.8 time penalties and hold third place with 50.10 going in to the final jumping phase. Wendy Ward's Thoroughbred was the subject of a recent Horse Deals Off The Track story.

Stuart Tinney and CCI3* newcomer, 'War Hawk' had a bit of a misunderstanding at the second water at number 25 for the addition of 20 penalties. They moved from fourth to sixth place, but a lot can happen tomorrow

Sonja Johnson gave Nikki Harwood's super little Thoroughbred, 'Parkiarrup Illicit Liaison' a great ride and "Ben" obliges by being on great form. They were the only combination in the CCI3* field to come home totally penalty free to move from second to first place.Can Sonja make it a CCI3* quinella?

Shane Rose and 'Shanghai Joe' make a beautiful jump over the Darug Dreaming log and ditch. Unfortunately just a few fences later at the most costly fence on the CCI3* course, number 25, they had a run out for the addition of 20 penalties, which saw them move from first to fifth place in the CCI3* competition.

Jessica Rae is pictured aboard her , 'San Suki' over the Opera House during their CIC2* cross country run. After one refusal on course they hold eighth place heading in to the final phase tomorrow.

Kim Leibowitz and her, 'Aladdin's Escape' are pictured disappearing over the Opera House on their way to jumping clear over the CIC2* course. They added 9.6 time penalties and hold sixth place heading in to the final jumping phase tomorrow.

Hayley Frielick and her Thoroughbred, 'Classic Action' make a beautiful jump over the Darug Dreaming fence on the CIC2* course. They came home clear jumping and clear time, just one of two combinations to do so and hold fifth place (up from 11th) heading in to the jumping phase tomorrow.

Lauren Browne and 'Sky's Da Limit' added just 3.6 CIC2& cross country time penalties to hold third place heading in to the final jumping phase tomorrow with 50.20 penalties.

Hamish Cargill and 'Legolas KPH' make a stylish jump on their CIC2* cross country run. They added just 5.5 time penalties to hold fourth place with 61.10 penalties.

With a clear, clear cross country run Andrew Barnett and , 'Bradgate Park Dante' moved from fifth to first place in the CIC2* competition.

Jessica Rae and 'Rascal' demonstrate their technical expertise over this skinny fence on the CIC2* course. They added just four time penalties to hold on to their post dressage second place.

Shenae Lowings and 'Venture Sky High' added just 1.6 time penalties on their CCI2* cross country run to hold on to their second place heading in to the final jumping phase tomorrow.

Katja Weimann and 'BP Escapade' slipped from first to ninth place in the CCI2* class as a result of a run out on course.

Robert Palm and 'Koko Story' are pictured heading off over the first fence on the CCI2* course. They added just 9.2 time penalties to hold fourth place heading in to the final jumping phase tomorrow.

Sarah Dawson and her Thoroughbred, 'Imposing' make a good jump on the CCI2* course. They hold tenth place after the cross country phase.

Jacqui Bladier are pictured making a stylish dive in to the water on the CCI2* course. Unfortunately they retired not long after this jump. No doubt they will have better opportunities in the future. There is always another event.

Experienced international eventing rider, Murray Lamperd from Victoria is pictured aboard his Thoroughbred, 'Shemozzle' on the CCI2* course. A refusal, but a quick time has them in sixth place going in to the final jumping phase tomorrow.
