35th NCHA Annual Futurity

Rob Hodgeman rode the Hodgeman and McGregor nomination of EB's Mia Cdee by Bank Fulo Cdees to win the ANZ Open Futurity Final, scoring 148.  While winning his first ever Futurity final after a number of placings, Rob took home the record first prize of $75,000 plus  a Roo-Hide Saddlery Trophy saddle, Champion buckle, Arait jacket and Ariat boot voucher, a rug and halter from Easy on Rugs and the list goes on.

Mexico Olympics Bronze Eventing medalist and long time Cutting competitor and supporter, Brian Cobcroft presented the Non Pro Hall of Fame award to Jackie Dudley. To add to a good weekend, Jackie won the Non Pro Classic final riding her well performed Spyderman with a score of 146 1/2.

Steve Byrne rode rode his own Diablos Little Dancer to score 142 in the final of the Barcode Direct and Yulgibar QHS Snaffle Bit Cutting Futurity. This equal top score resulted in a ride off with Mark Watt, however Steve only scored 132 in the ride off finishing in second place.

This combination scored 140 in the final of the Greg Ellison and Priefert Classic Challenge for equal sixth place. Voodoo is the only Quarter Horse/ASH to ever make the NCHA Futurity finals (in 2006).

Amelian Tonkin from Barraba NSW did not have such a good day, after qualifying her two horses for the Quality Hotel Powerhouse Non Pro Derby, one being Chicky Babe that Phil Dawson rode to second place in the Derby final. She thought she had a good chance for serious money.  However, Chicky Babe lost her cow and Amelian retired. Then in the last few seconds of an impressive run on Yulgilbar Spin N Play (seen here) she also lost her cow for a score of 126.

For many years one of the most common sights at all major cutting events around Australia is Richard Webb and his wonderful turn back horse, He's A Dynamic Doc (Mic). Today at eighteen years old, Mic made his last appearance in the show ring and will retire to Richards property where he will be used to introduce children to the sport of cutting.
