As it is an Open competition, many of the big kids come out to play and there are some impressive performances to watch with 130 competitors.

They have all the class for the Hack section and all the talent for the cattle work in the Campdraft section. They won in 2017 and this year had to settle for eighth place.

Courtney Bowd rode 'Silverthorn Goodwill' by St Ronan Abdul Smoke to win the Hack section of the RM Williams Abbey Open Challenge.

Dan Steers of the Double Dan looks stylish and well in control of the situation riding the typey, 'Talawahl Double Image' during the hack section of the RM Williams Abbey Open Challenge. They went on to take equal second place in the Campdraft section with a score of 88.

Alexandria Barnes is pictured the well performed and big moving, 'Wundurra Reveal' during the Hack section of the RM Williams Abbey Open Challenge.

Gerald O'Brien is another rider, breeder and trainer at short odds for the major prize in the RM Williams Abbey Open Challenge. He is pictured aboard the home bred, 'O'Brien's' Ozette' (O'Brien's Vedette/O'Brien Family Yvette) during the Hack section. With an all round good performance they claimed the 2018 Abbey Open Challenge.

The Nationals have always been a successful show for Allan Wallen from Queensland and today in difficult conditions he rode his, 'Dandilla Bayellen' to score an impressive 87 in the Campdraft section of the RM Williams Abbey Open Challenge.

Carly Domrow from Queensland managed to both keep clean and score. She is pictured aboard, 'Meluca Stud Dazzle' that scored 77 in the Campdraft section of the RM Williams Abbey Open Challenge.

A little mud did not worry Warwick Lawrence as he scored 83 riding, 'Willowby Excelarator' in the Campdraft section of the RM Williams Abbey Open Challenge.

John Lee is pictured aboard, 'Jays Bar Adios Acres' during the Campdraft section of the RM Williams Abbey Open Challenge. Early in the show this combination won the Novice Draft. The Acres Destiny stallion scored 78 in the Abbey Challenge Draft.

Very successful Australian Stock Horse breeder and exhibitor, Michael Wilson would be at short odds to take out the 2018 RM Williams Abbey Open Challenge. He is pictured aboard, 'Nandeye Destiny's Dream' that is by Acres Destiny out of the great, Nandeye Reflect. The heavy rain the night before made conditions very difficult and despite the combined talent of horse and rider, they lost the cow in the Abbey Challenge draft.

Despite the conditions, Simon McMahon rode, 'Wasmac Malibu N Ice' to score 80 in the Campdraft section of the RM Williams Abbey Open Challenge.

Brooklyn Symes rode, 'Niagara Jewel' to get a good score in the Campdraft section of the RM Williams Abbey Open Challenge.

Joel Blake rode, 'Binnia Hilfiger' to score 79 in the Campdraft section of the RM Williams Abbey Open Challenge.

Clint Parker rode his, 'Waylon J Fort Destiny' by Bryjen Fort Talon to produce an overall good performance to take third place in the 2018 RM Williams Abbey Open Challenge.
