Barastoc Horse of the Year Show

The Moloney Family's very well performed, 'Lykanarrow Roger Rocket' was declared Champion Home Bred Ridden Mountain and Moorland Exhibit.

Well known showing identity, Brian Scholes is enjoying competition in the HRCAV ring. A member of the Sunbury ARC Brian is pictured with his (naturally) typey, 'Baldwin Spencer' that was declared Champion Led Level 4 Exhibit.

Sally Fay took out the Australian Stock Horse Champion Led Gelding title with her 'Kanika Black Douglas'.

Jason Fry from Gippsland took out the Champion Mare award and Supreme Led Australian Stock Horse Exhibit with his typey Three Year Old Filly, 'Condamine Liberty Belle'. Jason is pictured with Stock Horse judge, Leanne Patison from NSW.

A year to the day that the Shaw family took the pony home, Laura Shaw rode her sister, Sophie-Kate's 'Newington Whispers' to take out the Barastoc Horse Of the Year Runner Up Small Pony award.

The McMahon and McCormick family's, 'Silkwood Angel Wings is nothing short of a super pony and one that will go down in history as one of the absolute greats. Ridden by Holly Lewis 'Angel' captured her third Barastoc Small Pony of the Year title on the trot, making it a total of four. When the others are tired and over it, 'Angel' keeps going forward with her ears pricked. She is and outstanding show pony. A little later on with the same enthusiasm, 'Angel' took out the Conceptions Garlands Leading Rein class, this time with Claudia McMahon in the saddle. 'Angel' also collected the International Challenge Small Pony Championship on Saturday night.

Cassie Fasan-Jones is pictured with Chloe Brooks' charming, 'Glengwin Material Boy' that was declared Reserve Champion Welsh Leading Rein/First Ridden exhibit.

Alison Gordon from South Australia is turned out to perfection for the Australian Stock Horse ring, as is her typey mare, 'Condor Idoleesa'.

If more boys realised that showing could be this much fun, they might take to the saddle. Owen Fletcher is pictured having a great time in the Conceptions Garlands Leading Rein class riding Ellena Boura's 'Llanfairbryn Swansea'.

Kellie Fraser is on the end of the lead with Jessica Fraser on the pony, 'Glengwin Silver Malidy'. They took sixth place in the strong Conceptions Garlands Leading Rein class.

Briony Payne rode Jodi Allen's, 'Manorvale Diamond Diva' to make the Barastoc Large Pony of the Year finals.

Joanne Endersby from Western Australia rode her own, 'Westlake Living Doll' to make the Barastoc Large Pony of the Year finals.

Emily McKernan rode Ray Butler's good working, 'Karlana Opening Night' to make the finals of the strong Barastoc Large Pony of the Year competition.

Emma Richardson's' Royalwood Song of Spring' has had a great couple of weeks, culminating in the Barastoc Large Pony of the Year Runner Up award. The lovely pony was ridden by Courtney Herd.

Carmen Nowak's 'Kolbeach Aster' joins an elite group of ponies that have taken out the Barastoc Newcomer and Open double. Ridden beautifully by Lynda Hayes, 'Aster' took out the open Barastoc large Pony of the Year title today.

It was wonderful to see Greg Smith up and about after an horrific stable accident some time ago. Greg judged the Gallery Equine Owner/Rider classes and is pictured with Belinda Anderson and her Champion Owner/Rider Galloway of the Year, 'Mirinda Antoinette'.

Riley Baker rode Nicole Riemer and Stuart Ryan's outstanding, 'Thorpeville Trendy' to claim the Barastoc Shetland of the Year award. As always the Shetland competition was outstanding.

A busy Grace Hill rode Tilly Charles' 'Lynvale Lodge Jazz' to take out the Barastoc Shetland of the Year Runner Up award.

Rachael Triffett took out the Gallery Equine Owner/Rider Hack of the Year title with her beautiful and big, 'SLM Thrill'.

A well performed Hayley Fairless took out the Peter Gahan Challenge Trophy for Girls. Very much like the Good Hands Trophy used to be, the finalists have to all ride an unknown horse, which works very much as a level playing field.

Sarah Hall claimed the premier Welsh award today with her, Welsh Cob/Thoroughbred 'Nawarrah Park Excalibur' that was declared Grand Champion Welsh Show Hunter.

Di Aumann's 'Pemberton Lemon Twist' ridden by Caitlin Smith was declared Champion Purebred Welsh Hunter. The pony is pictured with judges, L-R Sharon Tipping and Matthew Lawrence from the UK.

Jordan Skyring from Parkridge in Queensland rode her 'Rathowen Macnamara' to make the finals of the strong Barastoc Galloway of the Year competition.

Barastoc this year was almost a Michael Christie benefit show. Today Michael rode Caroline Kuhn's beautiful and well performed, 'Mirinda Eyeliner' to take out the Barastoc Galloway of the Year award. Eyeliner has won this title at least on one previous occasion.

Marcia Beard was delighted to take out the Barastoc Runner Up Galloway of the Year award with her 'Kolbeach Circus'.

Darryl Hayes rode Rachael Keskinen's lovely hack, 'Request', the subject of a Horse Deals Off The Track story last year, to take out the Barastoc Horse of the Year Runner Up award. Request was Newcomer of the Year in 2009.

Tania Hay from Tasmania made it an outstanding Barastoc Horse of the Year hat trick with her beautiful 'Consequence', with victory in 2008, 2009 and now 2010. Last night the "overseas" travellers took out the International Challenge Hack of the Year title. We have been told that 'Consequence' will be put in foal this year. She will certainly be a hard act to follow.

You can't keep a classy horse down. Demi Morrison is pictured with her well performed (including a former Barastoc Horse of the Year title), 'Lemrac's Dancing Poet'. They made the Horse of the Year finals today and last night took out the International Challenge Runner Up award.

New combination, Tamara Lee and 'Wingrove Image' are off to a great start together. They made the finals of the Barastoc Horse of the Year and are certain to go on to great success.
