Dirk Schrade riding, 'King Artus' for Germany is pictured coming out of the first water complex. They added 10.30 time penalties and were one of the discard scores for the German Team that holds the lead going in to the final jumping phase tomorrow.
Irish combination, Aoife Clark and, 'Master Crusoe' look to be of a single mind as they make their way around the testing Olympic track. They added 10.12 time penalties and moved from 32nd place after the dressage to 21st place going in to the final phase.
Veteran of six Olympic Games, Mary King shows the determination that has made her so successful. 'Imperial Cavalier' by Cavalier Royale was strong on course, nut Mary made it happen and came home with just the addition of 1.20 time penalties, to hold sixth place going in to the final phase. They are pictured over the Saxon Village ab and second last fence.
AS expected, New Zealand improved their Team standing and are in fourth position after the cross country. Johathan Paget did his bit riding , 'Clifton Promise', adding just 4.80 time penalties to lie in 14th place. They are pictured coming over the last fence, 28 The Olympic Horses.
Seven time Olympian, Andrew Hoy is pictured making a good jump over The Cricket Ball Basket at number 23 riding 'Rutherglen'. This fence had caused a couple of early falls, although a straight forward fence. It was a single fence out on its own after a long run. Andrew came home with 7.60 time penalties and is one of just three Australian combinations left in the competition. "The Aussies are still in it and it will not be through a lack of trying if we do not win gold".
German Team Member, Ingrid Klimke produced a beautiful round riding her Beijing Olympic Gold Medal partner, 'Butts Abraxxas' to come home clear and hold equal first place with 39.30.. After her round, Ingrid commented; "I am so thrilled with my very wonderful horse; he made it easy for me, he made every jump easy. Four years ago in Hong Kong he did the same and I am privileged to have him".
With the crowd cheering her every stride, Zara Phillips produced a super round with her, 'High Kingdom' to move from 24th place to equal tenth (with Christopher Burton). The UK Team are in second place just 5.50 penalties behind Germany. The final jumping phase will be exciting tomorrow.
Caroline Powell and 19 year old 'Lenamore' produced a super team round for New Zealand ans did not damage the fruit at number 13, the East End Barrows. They added just 1.60 time penalties. They moved from 43rd place to 24th on the strength of their effort today.
Russian Individual, Mikhail Nastenko jumps the East End Barrows aboard his Caretino gelding, 'Coolroy Piter'. He was pleased to jump clear, but his time was costly.
All looks to be going well for Lucinda Fredericks and 'Flying Finish' as they negotiate the barge in the middle of the Inland Waterways complex. Unfortunately Flying Finish just ducked around the skinny jump up on to the bank at B for the addition of 20 penalties and a costly further 18 time penalties. They slid from seventh place to 43rd, but they are still in the competition and their score counted for the Australian Team.
Frenchman, Donatien Schauly makes a splash with his 'Ocarina Du Chanois' as they make their way through the Inland Waterways at fence 17. They added 7.20 time penalties and hold 18th place with 51.60 penalties. Only ten penalties separate the top 14 and the competition is very close with less than one jumping fence separating the top six.
Jessica Phoenix representing Canada had a great run a cross country aboard "Exponential" to just add 2.4 time penalties, moving them into 22 place.
Dutch team rider, Andrew Heffernan heads across the main arena to jump the Tower of London fences 15 and 16. A large crowd occupied the grandstand seats to watch the action on the big screen and see the horses in the flesh through the arena. Riding 'Millthyme Corolla' Heffernan added 12.40 time penalties to hold 32nd place.
Former European Champions, Kristina Cook and 'Miners Frolic' came home clear for Great Britain and hold fifth place heading in to the final jumping phase tomorrow. It was an emotional day for Cook who almost lost the Thoroughbred gelding through illness a year ago.
Not happy at being delayed before his dressage appearance yesterday, Andrew Nicholson had no such delay today and produced a super round aboard the experienced and successful, 'Nereo'. They came home clear and under time and hold ninth place with 45.00 penalties.
Riding as an Individual for Poland, Pawel Spisak and the Polish Horse Breeders Association, 'Wag', jump out of the first water complex , The River Bank. They jumped clear, but added quite a few time penalties in doing so for 41st place, but they have another day tomorrow.
The Australian bred,'Mystery Whisper' always makes a lovely jump as is pictured here with USA Team Member, Phillip Dutton as they make their way through The River Bank abc. They added just 2.80 time penalties to hold 12th place with 47.10 heading in to the final jumping phase tomorrow.
All looked to be going very well for Clayton Fredericks and the typey, 'Bendigo', pictured here at The River Bank 8abc.. Sadly the horse slipped quite badly after jumping off the bank at The Royal Greenwich Borough 20 ab, resulting in the fall of both horse and rider. Neither were injured, but they can play no further part in the competition.
Experienced French Team members, Nicholas Touzaint and , 'Hildago de L'Ile' are pictured through the Inland Waterways at number 18ab. They added 7.60 time penalties to hold 27th place with 55.20.
Swedish team member, Malin Petersen jumped a very good round riding the well named Irish bred, 'Sofarsogood'. They jumped clear for the addition of just 0.80 time penalties which rocketed them from 65th place after the dressage phase to 30th heading in to the jumping tomorrow. The Swedish Team hold third place just 6.30 penalties behind the leaders, Germany. The jumping phase tomorrow will be very exciting.
Last to go for New Zealand and the competition, Mark Todd just about carried his horse, 'Campino' over the last few fences. Although tiring, Campino rose to the occasion and came home with just 0.40 time penalties. Todd holds his third place going in to tomorrow's final jumping phase.
Boyd Martin opened the cross country competition on a beautiful day in the park. Boyd set off at the gallop aboard, 'Otis Barbotiere' and came home clear but with the addition of 3.60 time penalties. He moved up ten places and is 26th going in to the jumping phase tomorrow. Team USA is in fifth place.
Australia's Christopher Burton produced one of the rounds of the day riding jean and Jade Finlay's very fit Lander mare, 'HP Leilani' to come home without penalty and move from 24th to equal tenth place. It was a great beginning for the Australian Team, but sadly everything else did not go to plan."She was fantastic, I love her to bits", commented the delighted Burton.
French Team Member, Denis Mesples is pictured riding, 'Oregon de la Vigne' over 14ab, The Sundial. Sadly a stop ans time penalties have him positioned in 51st place.
Canadian Team member, Michelle Mueller is pictured jumping number seven, The Moon, with London in the background. A stop and time penalties saw them finish down the line, but they did finish, which 15 of the 74 to start did not.
Belgian Team rider, Virginie Caulier make a good jump over the wonderful, Planet jump at number seven on the top pf Observatory Hill. They jumped clear but added quite a few time penalties to finish in 36th place. Time was always going to be a determining factor today , but surprisingly nine went clear and under time.
British Team Member, Nicola Wilson has been the UK trailblazer on many occasions and did they job again today, going clear and under time riding 'Opposition Buzz'. They moved from 39th to 20th place on the strength of their good round and gave their team plenty of confidence.
Alena Tesliapushkina from Belarus has had success in Eventing World Cup competition and is seen dropping odd the bank at 20ab, The Royal Greenwich Borough which was to cause some grief later in the competition. Sadly this combination had a fall later in the course.
USA Team member, Karen O'Connor added 10.17 time penalties riding, 'Mr Medicott' and they are pictured jumping The Chess Table, woven over a steel frame. O'Connor holds 24th place going in to the final jumping phase tomorrow.
Australian Team member, Sam Griffiths is pictured over the Chess Table. Sadly for Sam and Australia, Happy Times who had some trouble keeping his feet on course, slipped on the flat around fence 21. "My horse slipped on the flat and lost his back end; the next thing I knew I was on the floor. I am absolutely gutted, but that is the sport. The going was quite hard, so I did not to put big studs in. That's maybe why he slipped" commented Griffiths.
