Description

The Carrock Raj (The Carrock Francesca [by Dagho] x Gaela Fan Fjildsicht), dark bay gelding, born on 28/1/2018.

Raj is 7/8ths friesian - not PB! Approx 17hh (unmeasured).

Raj is available to an EXPERIENCED HOME ONLY. He is still very green and is a big, powerful horse. Raj IS NOT CURRENTLY IN WORK.

Raj has had a few preps over the last four years - with EbonyLyla Horsemanship, then professionally started by Hamish Carlin, a brief spell, and then a few more weeks at Ebony’s early 2022. He then had six weeks with Victoria Abbott in 2023 where he did a little mustering, trail riding and some arena work.

He has been broken in well, has a lovely mouth and overall disposition. Raj is super people oriented and will gallop to meet you at the gate! He is a very sweet boy, however he does require an experienced and confident rider, as he seeks confidence from his person.

Having had him since he was two, I’d hoped that the relationship we built would offset my lack of confidence. Working with my instructor, Raj was brought into work slowly this year, with lots of ground work and encouraging him to relax and build confidence in himself. I had a few little “pony rides” on him. He was an absolute gem despite the fact that I was nervous as hell.

Unfortunately then I got sick and he didn’t get worked for another two months. We started out again with groundwork in August and I had another little ride before booking a saddle fit. Unfortunately Raj spooked very dramatically during the saddle fit and I had a spill when he bucked.

I still have no idea what scared him, but the reaction was too big for me. None of his trainers ever saw this kind of behaviour and I don’t believe it was a “dirty” move. I believe that my level of confidence (or lack there of!) couldn’t “hold him” in his fear response.

I absolutely adore this horse and he will only go to a person with the experience and confidence to bring out the best in him. I don’t want to set him or his buyer up to fail, because he deserves the best.

Raj will need to be trucked to his new home. When he’s stressed he can throw his head up and he banged his head on the float, so we were going back to basics with float training.

I think Raj would be a great dressage horse, combined with hacking out, which he loves, but he requires time and exposure. He is forward moving and thrives on frequent, consistent work.

I would be very reluctant to sell Raj sight unseen. Vet check encouraged. Located Warrnambool, VIC.
