2009 Australian Showjumping Championships

Victorian rider, Russell Morrison outpaced a classy field riding his 'JF Didgeridoo' to win the Atech Mini Prix in Ring 2 today. It was a pity the Mini Prix was relegated to Ring 2 as the 16 horse jump off was one of the most exciting over the weekend of jumping.

Cathy Graham from Queensland rode her talented, 'Da Vinci's Pride' to take sixth place in a very exciting Atech Mini Prix.

Matt Afford, one of a strong South Australian contingent at the 2009 Nationals, rode his, 'Kaluna Thunderstruck' to third place in the exciting Atech Group Mini Prix in Ring 2.

Stylish Queensland rider, Olivia Hamood rode the wonderful, 'Bucks Bunny' to jump one and four for fifth place in the final Canberra Motorworks Junior Championship class this morning.

James Arkins and 'Dreamtime Invader' were one of the 31combinations to make the Canberra Motor Works Junior Championship final from the original 86 starters.

2007 Australian Junior Champion, Monique Barrett from NSW went in to the final leg of the Canberra Motor Works Junior Championship in second place. Monique jumped clear and four aboard Christopher Burton's ex eventer to take fourth place in the class, which was enough to earn the 2009 National title.

Stephen Devine from South Australia rode Clive Reed's 'Kirkley Hill De Ja Vu' to jump one of eight first round clears from the 31 to start in the Canberra Motor Works final Junior Championship class.

From the Yarra Valley in Victoria, Toni Scattergood rode her, 'Dee Jay West' to jump clear and a fast four to take third place in the Canberra Motor Works final Australian Junior Championship class.

Georgie Harvey from NSW rode another ex eventer, 'Glenorchy Hope' to jump a super double clear in the Canberra Motor Works final Junior Championship class. Fifth going in to the final, their good form saw the promising combination take the Junior Championship Runner Up award.

Victorian combination, Kirsten Neil and , 'Wondaree Set Sail' jumped one of just eight first round clears in the final Canberra Motor Works Junior Championship class..

Rhys Stones rode the Prince Noir mare, 'Wyndarra Phoebe' to make the final cut of the strong ISS Australian Young Rider Championship.

Former eventing rider, Chloe Hughes from Queensland jumped a super double clear riding her, 'Feldale Billy' in the final ISS Australian Young Rider Championship class to take third place.

Melissa Turner and her , 'Clarsym Sher' made the final cut of 27 in the ISS Australian Young Rider Championship.

Last year Lauren Balcomb and the Boyd Martin produced, Kootamootoo won the Two Star Adelaide Three Day Event. This weekend they made the final cut for the ISS Australian Young Rider Championship.

Gabrielle Kuna is clearly fond of shoes. She rode her 'Diamond B Jimmy Choo' to make the final cut in the ISS Australian Young Rider Championship.

Coached by Vicki Roycroft, Sophie Miller has formed a good partnership with the talented, 'Eliza Jane'. They jumped a good four and four in the final class of the ISS Australian young Rider Championships.

Victorian combination, Sam Williams and 'Isle of Rahn' make a stylish picture as they negotiate the final ISS Australian Young Rider Championship course. They jumped well, but eight penalties over the tough track kept them out of the placings.

Nicholas Sheehan who has been training with Chris Chugg for the last five months had a very good show in the ISS Young Rider section. Third yesterday, Nicholas jumped a great double clear aboard his , 'Bonaventure' to win the final Championship class. Nicholas finished the Young Rider Championship in thrid place.

Successful Victorian combination, Steven Hill and 'Kelstar' look very interested in the task ahead. Despite jumping well they incurred eight penalties in the first round of the final ISS Australian Young Rider Championship class, which kept them from the placings.

2008 ISS Australian Young Rider Champions, Emily Blinkworth and 'CP Argentina' lost their stirrup and the 2009 title with a fence down in the second round. They finished fifth in the final class and were declared 2009 Runner Up Young Rider.

Kym Hilly from Queensland really impressed in the ISS Australian young Rider Championships with her imported French stallion, 'Nolisco'. (Jalisco B cannot be far away in the parentage?) They jumped a stylish clear and a fast four to take fourth place in the final ISS Australian Young Rider Championship class.

Tom McDermott had an embarrassment of riches at the 2009 Nationals. He won all the Junior classes , but was not Junior Champion, as all victories were on different horses. Tom won the final Canberra Motor Works Junior Championship class this morning riding 'Ashleigh Diamond'. He is pictured aboard one of his Young Rider mounts, 'Stratford Delight' that was just out of the ribbons this morning.

Hilary Scott and her imported French mare, 'Oaks Miss Scarlet' went in to the final ISS Australian Young Rider Championship class a point behind Emily Blinkworth. Hilary jumped two super rounds on the ever improving young mare to take second place in the class which was good enough to claim the 2009 ISS Australian Young Rider Championship.

No one could ever claim that Vicki Roycroft was not dedicated. It is a quality, along with many others, that has seen Vicky at the top of the international sport of showjumping for many years. Vicky braved the hail to ride her youngster, 'Welsom' in the Binks Cement D Grade.

South Australian rider, Kristy Bruhn shows just how tough the final Horseland Senior Championship class for her Grand Prix newcomer, 'Harbarty'. Not long after this Kristy retired her talented Thoroughbred. No doubt we will see much more of them in the future.

Jono Berry makes a beautiful jump aboard Kerrie Winning's typey and imported Quick Star stallion, 'Quincy Z'. They finished the final Horseland Senior Championship qualifier in sixth place.

Peter McMahon and 'KS Genoa' look good over the Cactus planks during the first round of the Horseland Senior Championship Grand Prix this afternoon. Unfortunately a fall in the second round put the talented pair out of the action.

Wendy Schaeffer's wonderful mare, 'Koyuna Sun Set' is really paying attention to the task ahead, all the while making sure of the task at hand. They jumped two super rounds to win the Horseland Senior Championship Grand Prix.

Chris Chugg and 'Vivant', now owned by Chris and Helen Chugg and Chris' mother Bev Edwards, marred a perfect run with one fence down in the first round of the final Senior Championship Grand Prix. Third place in the class kept Chris and Vivant in Championship position, their third consecutive title together.

Paul Athanasoff and Charlie Hooke's home bred, 'Wirragulla Nicklaus' jumper two super clear rounds in the Final Senior Championship Grand Prix.. Paul and the very fit looking stallion have formed and great partnership and they gave a great demonstration of that today. They were a pleasure to watch.
