39th Barastoc Horse of the Year

Brooke Jenkinson and 'Pine Plains Lido' from the Horsham ARC were one of many HRCAV members in action on the last day of the Barastoc four day marathon. They are pictured winning a turnout class at the beginning of the day's competition.

Patricia Fromholtz drove her charming three-year-old, 'Treeline Tialeaha' to take second place in the Australian Miniature Pony Period Costume Harness class. It was a great effort, as the pony behaved very well at her first show, having only been broken in six months ago.

A Nicholls' 'Chelleason Goldern Emperor' (Willowvale Picasso/White Skye Blue) won the Arabian Derivative Gelding Three Years and Under class. Doyle Dertell was at the end of the lead.

Kate Jewell took out the Australian Miniature Pony "Best Challenge Pony" (ponies not to have previously won a Championship) award with her lovely and beautifully presented 'Pentland Moppett II'.

Warranoak RC member, Cara Shelly took out the HRCAV Led Hack Over 16hh class with her impressive Anglo Arabian, 'Evan'.

Scott and Mairi McGregor's imported Highland stallion, 'Fyfedene' ridden by Jahane Parrish, took out the Supreme Ridden Mountain and Moorland Exhibit award. Before coming to Australia the handsome stallion had been Supreme in Hand at the Royal Highland Show on three occasions, and had also qualified for Olympia on three occasions, where he won Supreme Highland Exhibit. 'Fyfedene' was also Reserve Champion in the Edinburgh Horse Rugs In Hand Challenge.

'Silkwood Angel Wings' (Silkwood Babbling Brook/Silkwood Seventh Heaven) had a wonderful show. Exhibited by Denise and Barry McMahon and Sarah and Michael McCormick, and ridden by Grace Hill, Angle Wings was declared International Challenge Small Pony and Barastoc Small Pony Of The Year.

Megan Hughes made the Barastoc Top Ten Small Pony with her 'Barrington Park Royal Fortune' by Kirreway Ambition.

'Tara Park Nightchaser' with help from three-year-old Holly Murray and Nicole Riemer took out the APSB (VB) Leading Rein Pony Class for Riders 3, 4 and 5 Years. All look to be enjoying the experience.

Georgie Cameron rode her mother Lyn's 'Otway View Windermere' to make Top Ten in a very strong Barastoc Shetland of the Year competition.

Georgia Greenwell rode her own and sister Olivia's very well performed, 'Mallawa Park Legendary' to claim the Owner/Rider Small Pony OF The Year Award.

Eleisha Ajani rode her 'Designer Label' to claim the Owner/Rider Galloway of the Year title.

Tahlia Bird rode the Caramia Shetland Pony Stud's 'Caramia Brodie' to claim the Barastoc Shetland Pony Of The Year Runner Up Award.

Lilly Mcevoy rode Kara Woolcock and Narelle Munday'a 'Bojinda Little Kimbo' to take out the Barastoc Shetland Of The Year Award.

Ridden by Linda Hayes, Graham Elliott's beautiful, 'Kolbeach Promise' demonstrates the form that saw her claim the 2008 Barastoc Large Pony Of The Year title.

Successful South Australian rider, Margot Haynes, although short of a show run, did not look the least bit rusty, as she rode Sue Bulling's 'Sanlirra Just Gossip' to make the Barastoc Large Pony Of The Year Top Ten.

Ridden by Chanel Hunter, Susanna Burt's 'Castleton Velvet Rose' (Urubula Regal Promise/Heiress of Astral), demonstrates the good work that saw the lovely pony claim both the International Challenge and the Barastoc Large Pony Of The Year Runner Up awards.

Back at Barastoc. Spohie Doake took out the Division I Owner/Rider Hack Of The Year award with her 'JHB Marlborough'. The good looking 15 year old by Zabeel won over $600,000 as a steeplechaser, has been a showjumper and made Top Ten Newcomer hack a few years ago.

Michael Christie rode Caroline Kuhn sucessful 'Mirinda Eyliner' (Ninfield Minks Supreme/Red Polly) to take out the International Challenge and the Barastoc Galloway Of The Year awards.

Briony Payne rode Michelle Chamberlain's lovely, 'Sanlirra Just Glitter' to take out the Runner Up Galloway Of The Year.

Susanne Pederson took out the Owner/Rider Horse Division II Hack Of The Year with her 'WS Applause', formerly ridden by Caroline Wagner.

Ellen Sherwood claimed the Reserve Supreme Ridden Mountain and Moorland Exhibit award with her very well performed New Forest Pony, 'Kapita Kip'.

With Michael Christie, back with a vengance, Caroline and Andrew Reid's beautiful 'Flirting' was declared Barastoc Horse Of The Year Division 1.

Demi Morrison from Yarra Glen is enjoying her ride on Brian Scholes and Gary Beaton's very successful former Hack Of The Year, Lemrac's Dancing Poet'. Demi has only been riding Poet for just over a month and they claimed the Runner Up title in Division I.

Alice Hamer came all the way from New Zealand to ride Jodie van Breugel's 'Salisbury My Guy' . The trip was worth it , as they claimed the Grand Show/Welsh Hunter Pony or Cob Of The Year award..

Nearing the end of day four, many of us felt like 'Louie' Connell! At least he could lie in the shade.

Successful showing rider, Shelly Penny took out the International Challenge Show Hunter Over 14hh Championship with her well-performed, 'SP Havana'

Lauren Tomasi has had a very successful Barastoc 2008, and she rounded off a good show by claiming the Division II Runner Up Hack Of The Year award with her 'Royal Monet'.

Tania Hay arrived in Victoria from Tasmania last Tuesday and today claimed the Division II Barastoc Hack Of The Year with her lovely 'Consequence'. Last year Tania and the mare took out the Runner Up award.

Danyel Riemer's lovely 'Harrington Park Minx' by Ninfield Minks Supreme claimed the inaugural Edinburgh Horse Rugs Supreme Led Exhibit award.
