Katja is pictured aboard Vaughan and Rosemarie Ellis' ex racehorse, 'Tomahawk Tom' that jumped clear and on time in the CCI** to hold his fourth place after the dressage, just 6.3 penalties behind the leader. And that would be Katja again with Peter and Jane Pittard's, Daley K gelding, 'Pluto Mio' that remains on his dressage score of 42.40.
Western Australian combination, Elizabeth Moore and 'Sebastian Bach' jumped clear and with the addition of 7.6 time penalties moved from 26th place after the dressage to 19th place after the tough cross country phase. This new Adelaide fence resulted in the elimination of the first two horses, New Zealand combination, Clarke Johnstone and 'Oakley Vision' and Wendy Schaeffer's 'Koyuna Sun Dancer'. Tallara and Chief Justice, third to go went on to finish the course albeit with 234 penalties.
Tallara Barwick and her experienced eventer, 'Chief Justice' demonstrate the problems encountered at the Normandy Bank.
Tallara Barwick and her experienced eventer, 'Chief Justice' demonstrate the problems encountered at the Normandy Bank. This was one of the cross country jumps build and designed to fall down when met with force.
With Tallara Barwick and 'Chief Justice' still on the bank, the repair crew an officials gather en masse to resolve the problem. The roll top on the bank was removed for all further CCI**** competitors, which would have been cold comfort for Clarke Johnstone and Wendy Schaeffer. It was especially disastrous for the New Zealand Team as they only had the minimum three riders going across country. Clarke's elimination results in the NZ team given 1000 penalties. All Australia had to do was get three home, which they did but not without drama.
New Zealand Team member, Jenna Mahoney and 'Santos' kept the Kiwi flag flying. They jumped clear and well as can be seen here, and even with the addition of 28 time penalties, they moved from 17th to sixth place

Sonja Johnson and the wonderful, Ringwould Jaguar' in typical pose during the CCI**** cross country. But even the best can have a bad day and Jag just though today it would be easier to go around than over the very tough 10ab angled (very acutely) Double of Ducks. As a Trans Tasman Team member Sonja and Jag made sure of the rest of the course to finish in 12th place. With the showjumping phase tomorrow, one can expect Jag to move up the leader board.
Popular South Australian, Luke Jones explained that he expected to move up the leader board after the cross country phase with his experienced 'Soul'. He however was "rather surprised" to have made the huge move from 26th to third. He jumped clear and with just 6.0 time penalties, was the fastest across country. When more fancied combinations found the going tough, Luke and 'Soul' just kept going. They are pictured negotiating the very difficult Double of Ducks via the direct route.
Christopher Burton opted for the safer long route at the Double of Ducks riding Jade Findlay's Landa mare, 'Holstein Park Leilani'. Sadly the Four Star debutante was eliminated later in the course. This picture give a good view of the Ducks and of the acute angle required of the direct route.
Even 'Kirby Park Irish Jester' tarnished his halo a little today. he was one of the high profile casualties of the Double of Ducks. Jester, like Jag thinking it better to go around that over. Even with 20 jumping penalties and 28.8 time penalties, Jester is in fifth place. However, Megan made up for any disappointment with a super rounds riding her own and Allen and Stephany Poulson's Rustic Amber gelding, 'Kirby Park Allofasudden' (pictured) for provisional second place with the addition of 18.8 time penalties.

South Australian combination, Felicity Braithwaite and 'Allegro Con Fuoco' by Allegro Con Brio look good during the Bates CIC** cross country. One stop marred an otherwise good round and they are in 25th place heading into the stadium jumping phase tomorrow.
Shane Rose did not have the best of days with his Beijing partner, 'All Luck' eliminated in the CCI****. However, Shane leads the CIC** field with 2008CIC** winner, the Ard Black Cat stallion, 'Statford Novalis'. They jumped clear and with the addition of 8 time penalties, hold the lead by 0.70 penalties. Shane is also in third place in the CCI** riding Koko Black.

Young Queensland rider, John Thompson did not have the best of days and he will have plenty of time to ponder "what could have been" on the long drive home. However, it is to be hoped the talented rider will learn from his trip to Adelaide. John is pictured riding his 'Captain Nemo' that was retired from the CIC** competition.
Carrie McInnes from NSW added just time penalties on the CIC** course riding her 'Cathedral End'. They head in to the showjumping phase tomorrow in 21st place.
