Young Victorian rider, Lucy Yeomans improved her CIC** standing from 20th after the dressage to final fourth place, thanks to the brilliant jumping efforts of her 'I'm A Skite'. The grey gelding had plenty to brag about today by finishing the competition on his dressage score, 73.10.
Queensland rider, Emma Dougall added two fences and six time penalties riding, 'Major James' to take seventh place in the Bates CIC** on 81.60 penalties.
Not that it looks like it from this photograph, but Cooper Oborn and his handsome 'Splurge' by Seattle Dancer, slipped from fourth to tenth in the Bates CIC** with the addition of four rails and time penalties.
Queensland international rider, Kevin McNab rode his 'Kelecyn Stiff Drinks' to add just one rail and seven time penalties in the Bates CIC** showjumping phase. However, they manages to hold on to their post cross country third place.
Australian Team assistant showjumping coach, Sam Lyle makes a stylish jump with 'Classic Mischief' during the final phase of the Bates CIC**. They had one down and added fourth time penalties, however they still held on to second place.
Marly Caladine-Leimbach and John Bond's 'Stratford Novalis' has had his share of bad luck, not the least being stuck in Hong Kong last year after the Olympic test event, due to the EI outbreak in Australia. However, the Ard Black Cat gelding and his rider, Shane Rose, were on song at Adelaide. They won the Bates CIC** on their dressage score, 46.60, 14 penalties ahead of their nearest rival.

Queensland rider, Chloe Hughes jumped a good clear jumping round aboard her 'Balmoral Hi Road' and despite the addition of seven time penalties improved her CCI** place from 13 to just in the money, tenth.
Victorian rider Katja Weimann rode her 'BP Gallantry' by Jubilee Bay to 12th place in the Bates CCI**.
Clara Palm and 'Bayard' added just four jumping penalties to their post cross country score to take sixth place in the CCI** with 64.30 penalties.
Hamish Cargill and 'Agent Arthur' surprisingly (from this photograph) dropped from eighth post a good clear cross country to ninth in the Bates CCI** with the addition of 16 jumping and two time penalties.
South Australian combination, Rebekah Foster and 'Carisbrook Cool Bananas' did not have luck with them in the showjumping phase of the Bates CCI**. They slipped from seventh post the cross country to final 13th place.
Two rails on the ground and six time penalties saw Wil Enzinger and 'BWS Eagle' slip from second to fifth place in the Bates CCI** with 59.90 penalties.
Lauren Balcomb and her talented 'Kootamootoo' from Duffy's Forest in NSW added just one showjumping rail to their dressage score to win the Bates CCI** with 49.60 penalties.
Based in England but born in Western Australia, Clayton Fredericks was clearly enjoying the sunny weather at the Australian International Three Day Event. Sadly the reigning World Cup Champion had to leave wife and Beijing Silver Medal Team member, Lucinda, back in England , as she is recovering from complications following a fall at the Eventing World Cup in France a couple of months ago.
Beijing Team Silver Medalists, Megan Jones and 'Kirby Park Irish Jester' were clearly enjoying (especially Jester) their meet and greet roll at Adelaide. Megan was there on business with horses in both the CIC** and the CCI****, but Jester was out for a good time.

Robert Palm from NSW jumped a good four penalty round in the Adelaide Equity CCI**** riding his 'Wynella Remus' for 12th place.
Stephanie Bender and her 'La Li Lu 2' by Laurie's Crusader did not have the best of showjumping rounds to finish 11th in the Adelaide Equity CCI****.
Popular South Australian rider and event sponsor, Luke Jones rode his 'Soul' to eighth place in the Adelaide Equity CCI****. However, despite that good effort, Luke will be remembered more for his show stopping Rolling Stones number at the Three Day Event Ball the night before.
Emily Anker and 'Keniski' are of like mind over this fence during the Adelaide Equity CCI****. The jumped clear to improve their position from eighth to sixth place with 75.20 penalties.
Fourth after the dressage phase of the CCI****, Marcia Williamson and 'Kalason' let their grasp slip on high end money with the addition of time penalties and showjumping faults. They held on to a place in the final lineup finishing in ninth place.
Wendy Schaeffer always lets her jumping do the talking. Wendy is pictured with 'Koyuna Sun Dancer' that finished on his dressage score, 53.50 for third place in the Adelaide Equity CCI****. Wendy did likewise with 'Koyuna Sun Shine' for fourth place with 54.60.
Megan Jones announced the arrival of another Four Star horse by taking second place in the Adelaide Equity CCI**** with Lauren Poulson's eight year old Rustic Amber gelding, 'Kirby Park Allofasudden'. Megan and the talented chestnut only added four cross country time penalties to finish with 53.10.
Competing in their first Four Star event, Victorian combination, Natalie Davies and 'Chatswood Sharp Move' did not have the best of showjumping days. The normally good jumper slipped from second after the cross country to seventh, finishing with 76.40 penalties.
Christopher Burton has his eyes fixed on the last fence on his way to jumping a clear round for CCI**** victory with his own and Low Verwey's ,'Newsprint'. Chris and the Rubiton gelding would most likely have started favourites for the competition and they did not disappoint finishing on their dressage score, 55, to claim the $8000 first prize.
The Jack Walsh Trophy was awarded to the winner of the Gawler Three Day Event which began in 1959.. The World Eventing Championships were held at Gawler in 1986 and the Three Day Event moved to the Adelaide City Parklands in 1997 with the first CCI**** conducted in 1999. The winner still receives the historic trophy.
