To the theme of Romeo and Juliet the Team from the USA earned 8.779 in the Freestyle and took out the team Vaulting Championship.
Driving for Swedwn, Fredrik Persson took fifth place in the Cones phase and eighth over all in the FEI Driving Championship.
Switzerland's Daniel Wurgler drove his well adorned Team to seventh overall in the FEI World Driving Championship. they are pictured during the final Cones (showjumping) phase of the Driving Championship.
Dutchman , Koos de Ronde took fifth place over all with his Team and was a member of the Gold Medal winning Team from The Netherlands.
The Teams are beautifully presented and here German Team member, Christoph Sandmann drives his Team (note the grey topper) to third place in the Cones and fourth place overall. The German Team took the Bronze Medal.
German Team member, Theo Timmerman took sixth place over all and was a member of the Bronze Medal Team.
US Team Member Tucker Johnson drove his team to take the Bronze Individual medal and was a member of the Silver medal Team from the USA. Tucker has been a member of the US Team for many years and will retire from competition after WEG. Tucker commented that "concentration is the biggest challenge" during the Cones phase.
Four time World Champion and 22 times Dutch Champion, Ijsbrand Chardon pushed Australia's Boyd Exell all the way and took the Individual Silver medal and was a member of the Gold Medal Dutch Team.
Six heads all with the same thought. One cannot overestimate the talent and training involved with the Driving Championship. Nor can one explain the beauty of this sport and it is probably the most difficult discipline of the eight on offer at the WEG. "This is my fifth World Championship with a horse Team and I have been trying to win this for 10 years. You just have to wait for your time". Boyd won the World Championship title by 1.20 penalties. he was first in the Dressage phase, third in the cross country phase and ninth after a conservative Cones phase. The degree of control these drivers have is amazing and I am all out of superlatives to describe Boyd's victory.
The boy from Bega. Boyd Exell may have been living overseas for the past 17 years and he may call Leicester home, but he comes back to Australia every year in January and February. 'I left Australia when I was 21 and said I was not going to go back until I was World Champion". Well Boyd can return any time now.
