Chautauqua fails to jump again, fights back to finish second in latest barrier trial, fate uncertain

The racing future of champion sprinter Chautauqua seems all but over, with the 'the grey flash' again missing the start before flying home and nearly winning a dramatic raceday barrier trial at Rosehill Gardens.

Connections went all-in for the infamous barrier rogue's seventh attempt to jump clean, arranging a unique raceday hit-out for the six-time Group One-winner in a last-ditch attempt to reinvigorate his interest in racing.

But the sprint sensation once known for his blistering last-to-first victories continued his new-found habit of standing flat footed when the gates opened, eventually ambling out in an effort jockey Tommy Berry described as 'simply not good enough'.
