Irish stallion Anthony Van Dyck has died after breaking down during today's Melbourne Cup.
The horse, which was one of the early favourites to take out the 2020 Melbourne Cup, pulled up with 350 metres to go.
It was loaded into a horse ambulance on the track.
Racing Victoria's executive general manager of integrity services, Jamie Stier, said the stallion suffered a fractured fetlock and had to be euthanised.
