Inside the world of Victorian rodeo legend Ron Woodall, champion of the bull riders

The son of a horse breaker, Ron Woodall grew up on a Victorian dairy farm and milked his first cow at the age of three.

He competed in his first rodeo when he was 14, and two years later rode in the open ranks in bull and bronc riding, as well as calf roping and steer wrestling.

The trophies, sashes and belt buckles — among them many All-Round Cowboy titles — lining the shelves at his home shine in testament to his success.

Now aged 76 and working as a stock contractor, the king of Australian rodeo spends most of his time breeding bulls and bucking broncs on his property at Lyons, in the state's south-west.

Mr Woodall has not lost the touch that served him so well over his 20 years on the rodeo circuit, claiming titles for Australian Bucking Bull of the Year, and at one point exporting stock to China.

"I've just got it in my blood," the 40-year breeding veteran said.

"That's all there is about it."
