Isabell Werth on 50th Birthday Rides Bella Rose to Aachen CDIO5* Grand Prix Freestyle Victory to Become Only 6th Combination in History to Score Above 90%

AACHEN, Germany, July 21, 2019–Isabell Werth, on her 50th birthday, rode Bella Rose to a score of 90.450% to win the World Equestrian Festival CDIO5* Grand Prix Freestyle Sunday to become only the sixth horse and rider combination in history to be awarded at least 90%.

Isabell and the 15-year-old Westfalen mare that 13 months ago returned to competition after an inury-caused absence of 3 1/2 years led the German team to gold in the Nations Cup of the Grand Prix and the Special before Sunday’s musical performance.

She and Bella Rose join the elite group of herself on Weihegold OLD, Charlotte Dujardin on Valegro, Edward Gal on Totilas, Helen Langehanenberg on Damon Hill and Sönke Rothenberger on Cosmo who have achieved at least 90% in the Grand Prix Freestyle.

The German superstar rider as the most decorated Olympic equestrian in history with 10 medals–six gold–is also the only rider to have ridden three different horses to scores of at least 80% in the Grand Prix–Weihegold and Emilio are her other two.
