Spanish 2018 WEG team rider Juan Matute Guimon is back in the saddle and riding horses after he almost died from a massive brain bleed on 5 May 2020.
On 5 May the 22-year old suffered a massive brain bleed and was twice operated on for an arteriovenous malformation (AVM).He was kept in an artificial coma for two weeks and was extubated on Whitsunday weekend. Matute made a miraculous recovery, experiencing no aphasia and only his motor skills on his right side require intensive physiotherapy. He left the hospital on 3 July and continued his rehabilitation as an outpatient.
Yesterday, the young top sport athlete sat for the first time on a horse again.
