Trainer Mitch Freedman is the latest Victorian horseman to have a horse in their care return an elevated reading to the prohibited substance cobalt.
A pre-race urine sample was taken from Pearl De Vere before finishing fourth of eight runners in a 1200-metre fillies and mares Benchmark 64 at Geelong on June 28.
Racing Analytical Services Limited (RASL) had detected cobalt within the sample at a mass concentration of 111 micrograms per litre in urine. The Racing Chemistry Laboratory then tested the reserve portion of the sample and detected cobalt at a concentration of 130 micrograms per litre in urine.
