SAUGERTIES, New York, Aug. 19, 2018–New Zealand’s John Thompson withdrew Antonello from the CDI3* Grand Prix Special Sunday with a veterinary issue at a warmup competition ahead of the World Equestrian Games in Tryon, North Carolina in three weeks. Kiwi Julie Brougham on Vom Feinsten also in the United States for the world championships was the sole competitor and was awarded 70.277 per cent.
The cause of the problem with Antonello was not known and whether the 17-year-old Hanoverian gelding would be fit enough for the World Games where dressage starts in three weeks.
The two New Zealanders were the only starting combinations in the Grand Prix Friday. Julie Brougham and Vom Feinsten scored 69.609 per cent and John Thompson and Antonello 64.543 per cent, the lowest Grand Prix score for the pair in 3 1/2 years at Big Tour.
