Donny the Brumby foal
Since childhood, Krystal MacDonald, who is now a qualified veterinary nurse, has rescued animals of all shapes and sizes. Donny was no exception. An orphan Brumby foal, originally discovered by a ranger at Donnybrook, found his way to Krystal via the Wacol RSPCA. Well attuned to the commitment of hand-rearing orphans, Krystal bottle-fed Donny every two hours and has since paired him with his surrogate mother. With a long road still ahead Donny’s future is looking hopeful.
Joe Wallace
At 55yo Joe Wallace retired from his work as a math teacher, and after watching his wife who had been riding for five to ten years prior, he climbed into the saddle. Upon retiring, he thought, “I could do that; it looked pretty simple”, and after falling in love with the Quarter Horse breed at 73yo, he is now a National Champion. Horse Deals spoke to Joe to find out why he chose horses after retiring.

After a devastating cancer diagnosis, Emma handled the personal challenge as she would in the saddle, with a positive mindset and a winners determination. She speaks to Horse Deals about how she dealt with the setbacks and rose again to be back at the top of her game.

Off the Track, Royal Windsor
Paul Austin's Royal Windsor, formally known as Metallicity when he was on the track, is now proving to be a successful show hack. Foaled in 2019, he was given the best the racing industry had to offer, but it was not enough to produce even a moderately successful racehorse. Recently declared Champion Novice Hack at the 2024 Brisbane EKKA, Horse Deals spoke to Paul to find out how he transitioned Royal Windsor into the show horse he is today.

Junior's White Tail Spider Bite Injury
Know Worries, aka Junior, is a 21-year-old ASH x TB who has been to hell and back when he was bitten by a white-tail spider in 2012. After consulting many veterinarians, the conclusion came to a 99.99% consensus that he was bitten by a white -tail spider. "I want to share his journey so other horse owners know what can happen," said owner Tash Hull.
Horse’s Tale, Nethaway Top Class
Lyn and Russel Quirk’s Nethaway Top Class has already been very successful throughout 2024. Ridden by Ashley Whiting in the show ring and shown in hand by Russel, he excels at it all. Horse Deals spoke to Lyn, Russel and Ashley to learn more about the versatile seven-year-old Australian Stock Horses and his successes.
