Queensland campdrafts to be cancelled amid ongoing impact of flooding and drought

Campdrafting, the horse sport loved by so many in the bush, is looking down the barrel of a tough year with many events likely to be cancelled due to the impacts of drought and flooding.

The Australian Campdrafting Association (ACA) said there was a high likelihood that half of Queensland's events would be cancelled.

ACA president Hugh Philp said it had been nearly impossible to get cattle for the campdrafting events due to destocked properties in droughted areas and the 500,000 head lost in the state's flooded regions.

Mr Philp said shows that had been running for decades had been cancelled for the first time ever.

"Capella and Alpha, I know they aren't running this year, and that's the first time in at least 25 years that has happened," he said.
