David Mace has worked as a racing clerk for 50 years in northern Tasmania, and he recently made the decision to retire once he turned 80, along with his horse Steven.
Working as a clerk Mr Mace and Steven chaperone riders to the starting gates, and are on hand for any issues that occur during the race.
"Once they're called up to the mobile we position ourselves one each side and should anything happen we're there for any help that's needed," Mr Mace said.
