Sydney Royal he has Won the World Championship Campdraft four times and three small arena campdrafts. Australian Stock Horse Nationals he has won the Open and two Stallion Drafts. Landmark Classic Open Campdraft and Stallion Shoot Out.

Ivory is out of your mare Ebony, what were your first impressions of him when he was born? It’s a bloody colt...!

At what stage did you recognise he had something special? When I very first started breaking him in and when I was taking him to the campdrafts at a very young age and everyone was worried I was pushing him, but he was just doing everything himself.

Since then he has amassed so many titles, is there anything he has left to win? Not in our eyes, but we have only been to Chinchilla a few times and would like to add that to his list.

He started in the pen as a 3yo and at 19 years old he is still at the top. What do you contribute to his longevity in the sport? Nothing special. He has just been allowed to be a horse out in the paddock, but has strong legs with big bone and a big heart and a sensible mind to go with it.

What is his work ethic like? He keeps himself fit in the paddock. In the early days he had plenty of riding, but these days he is lucky to get two rides before a draft. We just make sure before a competition he is well warmed up.

He is no stranger to the big time, does he perform differently on the bigger stage? No, Ivory goes the same week in, week out, but maybe the rider concentrates more at the bigger drafts.

What has he ‘got’ that makes him so successful as a campdrafter? Exceptional speed and strength to get where he has to be. And a mind that knows where he has to be by himself.

Low or high maintenance? Very low maintenance. That is why he was left a stallion because he was never any trouble and always a pleasure to have around.

His most annoying habit or quirk? He can’t wait to get his saddle off to get down and have a roll straight after a run.

How would you describe his temperament? Exceptional! He has even had mares get out and get next to him across from a barb wire fence in season and not even caused a problem. He is just a true gentleman.

Your most memorable moment with him so far? Ivory leaving me behind in the run off for the top cut out at the Stock Horse Nationals.

What does he mean to you and your family? There are not enough words for what Ivory has done for our family. Every member of our family (5) has ridden, drafted and won on him. He is one of the family.

What is the first thing on your shopping list for him? He loves his Pryde’s EasiFeeds.

If he was a human who would he be? Rocky Balboa.

What would you trade him for? NOTHING!

3 things we don’t know about Chevin Ivory?
1. His strange name came from the old song, ‘Ebony and Ivory’ as his mother was Ebony.
2. He can nearly put the rug on himself, you just hold it up and he puts it on like a jumper.
3. He has won over $290,000 in prize money.
