The world may shift on its axis, but Winx keeps on winning

The last time Winx lost a horse race Tony Abbott was running the country, Donald Trump's presidency was a fanciful idea, the UK was part of the EU and Cronulla fans still had the porch light on.

Drastic changes in the global political and sporting landscapes have unfolded during Winx's incredible run of 25 straight race wins, yet the Chris Waller mare's ability to impress has remained a constant.

Eighteen of her wins have been at group 1 level and she is now the equal of Black Caviar, who retired with a perfect set of 25 wins from as many starts.

"It's the same as winning 10 [in a row], it's no different," Waller said.

"The only difference today was with Black Caviar's 25, she was unbeaten and we've got the utmost respect for her.

"Every win's so special."

Oh, how the world has changed since Winx last failed to salute the judge, exactly three years and three days before Saturday's latest chapter of success.

Malcolm Turnbull replaced Abbott as Prime Minister in the spring of 2015, two days after Winx saluted in the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes – the third win of her phenomenal 25-race streak.

When the UK voted themselves out of the European Union, Winx was in the paddock, nursing a nine-race winning streak.

As the world quivered in November of 2016 following Trump's rise to power, Winx's second and most memorable Cox Plate win from a fortnight earlier was still fresh in the memory of racing fans all over the world.

So much has changed in the sporting world, too.

Grand final weekend in 2016 ended two of the great Australian sporting droughts. Cronulla finally won the NRL competition in their 50th season, a day after the Western Bulldogs broke a 62-year premiership drought.

A week later Winx had just two challengers in the group 1 Ladbrokes Stakes, and neither was a match for the mighty mare.

As it turned out, 2016 was the unscriptable year in sport all over the world. The Chicago Cubs won a Major League Baseball crown after 108 years, and Leicester City claimed the English Premier League title against all odds.

Leicester fans were able to celebrate on May 2 of that year such was the margin they had established in the Premier League table. Just a month earlier, Waller and connections of Winx had been revelling in her Doncaster Handicap victory, the ninth of this incredible run.

The seemingly impossible continued in 2017 as Winx's reputation grew with Richmond winning the AFL flag 37 years after their last success. Weeks later Winx landed her third-straight Cox Plate, equalling the feat of the great Kingston Town.

"It's been a learning curve and we're at a stage now where we're used to this constant pressure which is pretty intense," Waller said.

"You'll see her in the spring, there's no doubting that but we won't put her under any pressure to get to any set race, we'll just be there.

"That could change as it does with any sport. When you need to make changes you make changes, the horse comes first.

"If we're not happy with her the day before Cox Plate she won't run."
