Troy Johnson had a rather mixed day of jumping. However, he rode his 'Alice's Wonderland' to fifth place in the One Steel Metaland and GH Keily Meats Young Rider AM5.

Kristy -Lee Cross and 'Jumanji' were one of just over 20 combinations to start in the One Steel Metaland and GH Keily Meats Young Rider AM5 today. Unlike the last two Bega Showjumping Championships, the first day of the 2009 show enjoyed perfect weather, with the forecast good for the next two days.

Fifteen year old Tom McDermott had a busy day. As it was the 1st January, Tom was eligible to ride in his first Young Rider class. he made the most of the occasion by taking first place aboard, 'Merriwah' and second place riding 'Markovich' (pictured). Tom went on to take fifth place in the Bega Cheese 1.30AM5 riding 'Markovich'

Former Melbourne Royal World Cup winners, Haley Clohesy (nee Kelly) and 18 year old, 'Medicine Man' had great fun winning the Bega Cheese 1.30m class.

When Sandra Kenny was not "the gate marshal from Hell" (really she was not that tough), she took fourth place in the Bega Cheese 1.30m class riding her 'Alando'. Sandra is pictured with her other 1.30m ride 'Grandejeur'.

Amanda Madigan had a few rides today, one of which, 'TP Gifted' was second in the Bega Cheese 1.30m AM5.

Leongatha legend, Russell Morrison jumped a super first round clear aboard his 'Jondoree Farms Didgeridoo' in the Bega Cheese 1.30m AM5. Russell had his sights on the bigger picture tomorrow and decided not to start in the jump off.
