London 2012 Olympic Games - Showjumping

Jur Vrieling got the competition and the Dutch Team off to a good start jumping clear in the First Individual Qualifier riding the Baloubet de Rouet stallion, 'Bubalu'. Holland finished the first day of jumping competition with all four team members jumping clear.

Beijing Team Silver Medallist, Jill Henselwood got Canada off and running with a four penalty round riding the Hanoverian gelding, 'George' by Garant.

Cassio Rivetti jumped a good clear for the Ukraine riding the careful Antaeus gelding, 'Temple Road'. Thirty two of the 72 to start jumped clear in this first Individual Qualifier. Tomorrow the Teams competition begins with all starting again with 0 penalties. The round today will be added to the performances in the Teams to determine the Individual standings and the top 25 will jump off for the Individual Medals.

Daniel Bluman and the Chin Chin mare, Sancha jumped clear for Columbia on the first day of Jumping action at Greenwich. There are 15 Teams and Bluman was riding as an Individual.

Australian Team member, Matt Williams, got off to a good start riding, the Heartbreaker gelding, 'Watch Me' that proved to be a bit of a heartbreaker when the previously well performed horse took a dislike to fence five, the English Country Garden Gazebo and Bridge, an oxer over water. Two refusals resulted in the end of Matt's Individual campaign, but he will be back in action and it is to be hoped over the water tomorrow for the first round of the Team competition.

World Champion, Belgium's Philippe le Jeune shows just how it should be done riding his Kentucky partner, the Nabab De Reve stallion, 'Vigo D'Arsouilles. The completed the course clear and in 81.80 seconds. The time allowed on the course was 82 seconds.

HRH Prince Abdullah Al Saud jumped a good clear round for the Saudi Arabian Team riding his Carthago Z gelding 'Davos'.

Young Canadian rider, Tiffany Foster jumped an eight penalty round at her Olympic debut aboard the Dutch Elmshorn gelding, 'Victor'.

Successful French International and regular Team member, Penelope Leprevost incurred just one time penalty on the quite twisty track riding her well performed Carthago stallion, 'Mylord Carthago'.

Lisen Fredricson's Cardento gelding, 'Matrix' was not at all happy with the atmosphere in the main arena. The Swedish combination is pictured over the first fence, but sadly they parted company at 3a.

Successful Portuguese international rider, Luciana Diniz was not happy with her eight penalty round aboard the Lifestyle gelding, 'Lennox'. "I have never had two fences down before in my life and I am not happy. But I hope I might make the mark for tomorrow".

Swiss Team Member, Paul Estermann jumped a good clear riding the Irish bred mare, 'Castlefield Eclipse' by Obos Quality.

Julia Hargreaves could not sleep last night, but there was nothing drowsy about her round today riding her lovely Indoctro gelding, 'Vedor'. They jumped a super clear, with Vedor looking just wonderful. They are pictured over the first fence, The Royal Naval College and Queen's House.

It is hard to imagine this horse ever touching a fence, However Belgium's Gregory Wathelet did lower one fence riding the talented, Canabis Z mare, 'Cadjanine Z'.

Syria does not have much to celebrate at the moment, however, Ahmad Hamcho jumped a good round today for the addition of just one time penalty aboard the well named, 'Wonderboy' by Flamenco De Semilly.

Reigning Olympic Gold Medallist, Canada's Eric Lamaze jumped clear riding the For Pleasure mare, 'Derly Chin De Muze'.

Scott Brash is making his Olympic debut for Team GB riding the Belgian bred , 'Hello Sanctos' and earned just four penalties in the First Individual Qualifier.

The Australian showjumping support crew, including Jan Tops, Rod Brown and Team Chef, Stephen Lamb look quite serious, unnecessarily so, just before Edwina Tops Alexander and Itot Du Chateau were about to start.

And Indeed there was nothing to worry about as Edwina and 'Itot' show here over the first. They jumped clear as was expected, but nothing is certain in showjumping.

Katharina Offel riding for the Ukraine makes a beautiful jump riding the well known former Australian international horse, 'Vivant'. The Fuego de Prelet stallion looks super and jumped a four penalty round lowering the A element of the last obstacle at 12

Australian team member, James Paterson -Robinson produced a good four penalty round lowering just the penultimate fence, the Nelson's Column Style riding Ger Pols Lancino De I gelding, 'Lanosso'.

USA Team member, Beezie Madden demonstrates just why she is one of the best and most stylish riders in the world. Having said that, it does not always go according to the script as 'Vio Volo', a mare by Clinton declined to jump out of the double 9ab. That is the end for any Individual honours for the Beijing Bronze Medallist, but chances are Beezie will be back firing on all cylinders for the Team competition tomorrow. In the first Individual Qualifier, 23 jumped clear, eight incurred time one penalty and four were eliminated and the standard of jumping was exceptional. It was a serious 1.50m track today and it is only going to get bigger.
