Ireland's Cian O'Connor claimed the Bronze Medal after a Jump Off for Silver. Cian and the Landor S gelding, 'Blue Loyd posted the fastest time in the two way jump off , but just rolled the last fence, the only fault they had in the three rounds of the Individual final. It was certainly a case of "the luck of the irish", as O'Connor was the reserve rider for Ireland and called up at the last moment and made the final cut following the withdrawl of Rolf-Goran Bengtsson's Casall on veterinary advice.

Round A of the Final Individual class was indeed a tough one with a particularly difficult S bending line to and away from the open water at 8. Just about every vertical on course, including in the middle of 11abc was set at 1.60m. The course was technical with related distances and what can now be called the "Bob Ellis turn backs". Jose Larocca from Argentina and 'Royal Power; first out, incurred 20 jumping penalties.

Up until fence 11a, Julia Hargreaves and 'Vedor' jumped the round of their lives and looked brilliant. Sadly for no apparent reason, Vedor lost concentration down the last line to come home with 16 jumping and one time penalty. The numbers do no represent the impressive round, as this picture demonstrates. It was a super Championship debut for Julia.
Luciana Diniz riding for Portugal was delighted with her one time penalty round in the first round of the Individual Final riding the Lifestyle gelding, 'Lennox'. Diniz finished in equal 17th place with a two round total of 10.
