2008 winner , Shae Hanger rode her, 'Highmont' to second place in the Garryowen.

Rachell Triffett from Somerville in Victoria is pictured riding her beautiful, SLM Thrill' in the famous Garrryowen Turnout class on a rather wet and miserable Melbourne morning. Fortunately the weather improved in time for the presentation.

The greys stood out in the gloomy morning light and Kelsey Bennet makes a delightful picture with the elegant, 'Tudor Park Alaska' as they go through their Garryowen workout.

Heidi Pickstock made the most of the ride on her partner, Dale Plumb's 'DP Amazing', to take out the award for Best First Year Exhibitor and fifth place overall in the Garryowen Equestrian Turnout class.

Rachael Lawrie from Ungarra in South Australia is pictured making the most of the brief bout of Melbourne Royal sunshine today. Rachael won the class for Lady Rider Over 30 and today took out the award for 2011 Reserve Champion Lady Rider riding her beautifully presented, 'Bond'..

Elly Rodgers from Moorooduc rode her 'SLM Dirty Talk' to win the delayed class for Novice Hack 15-15.2hh. All the Novice Hack classes due to be judges yesterday afternoon were postponed as the entire show was shut down at pm due to the horrendous weather. The classes were slotted in today with the arena divided in to three rings which worked well and got the schedule up to date. Early in the day Elly was one of the Garryowen first timers.

Paula Heffernan from Coldstream in Victoria rode her, 'Gold Secrets' to sixth place in the class for Novice Hack 15-15.2hh on the cold and rainy sixth day of the 2011 Royal Melbourne Show.

Cecil Thomas and his daughter Carly from Clarkefield in Victoria have been exhibiting at the Royal Melbourne Show for many year, as indeed have the Thomas family. Carly is pictured riding her own and Cecil's, 'Criteria' to fifth place in the class for novice hack 15-15.2hh.

It was not the best day for all the prestigious Melbourne Royal turnout classes, but the show went on. Sophie Fox was delighted to claim the J Pemberton Equestrian Turnout class for Girls and Boys 12-15. (There were no boys who have been added to the programme for political correctness).

Hannah Tempany from Mulwala in NSW rode her 'Shine For You' to take fourth place in the KG Luke Equestrian Turnout class for Girls and Boys 15-18. (Again there were no boys).

Lily McEvoy is continuing where she left off at Adelaide and brought her good form to the Royal Melbourne Show. Lily rode 'Towering Inferno' to take out the KG Luke Equestrian Turnout class.

Breeanna Hicks from Nathalia in Victoria was one of the Garryowen first timers this morning, and just to prove she is really a 'lady in waiting' she rode her 'WF Imagine' to take out the prestigious John Lithgow Trophy for Equestriennes 18-21 later in the day.

Successful showing rider, Rachel Wessell from Clonbinane in Victoria rode her 'DQ Lumiere' to take second place in the class for Novice Hack 15.2-16hh.

Dale Plumb rode Nina Beresford-Smith's 'DP Jerramiah' to third place in the class for Novice Hack 15.2-16hh.

Ashlyn Sorraghan from Moorooduc in Victoria, one of the riders to have grown up at the Melbourne Royal Show, rode her 'Tapu Cadenza' to take sixth place in the class for Lightweight Galloway 14.2-15hh.

Rebecca Dick from Lower Plenty in Victoria rode her eye catching, 'Exclusively Mine' to third place in the class for Novice Hack 16=16.2hh.

Natalie McKay from Berwick rode her elegant, 'Black Knight' by Rustic Amber to take second place in the class for Novice Hack Over 16.2hh.

Emily Hoare from Lewiston in South Australia rode her promising, 'Khamsin Rose' to win the class for Novice Hack Over 16.2hh.

With the twilight and the rain approaching, Greg Mickan rode Janelle Sloane's 'Divine Victoree' by Deveron Duvall to win eh class for Novice Hack 16-16.2hh and claim the best Novice Hack award.

Jason Scott from Dingee in Victoria rode his , 'Insecurities' to third place in the class for Show Hunter !5-15.2hh.

Sarah McMaster had a great day with her well performed Galloway, Moniceito Park Royal Flush. They won the Child's Galloway class, were second in the Open Lightweight 14.2-15hh and they are pictured on their way to second place in the class for Girl Rider 12-14.

Let's hope Sally Shaw has acclimatised to the Melbourne weather. The former Northern Territory resident braved a cold afternoon to win the class for Girl Rider 12-14.

Rebecca Richards rode her own and her mother, Beverley Richard's very well performed, 'Dymondz' to win the class for Show Hunter 15.2-16hh.

"Not happy Jan"! Adam Oliver's face says it all, as he copes with the appalling conditions during the Galloway Championship ride off. Adam, who lives in Queensland is pictured riding Karen Fisher's, 'Willowcroft Bond' that won the class for Open Heavyweight Galloway 14.2-15hh.

Riding in the rain and at night is only bearable if you win, and Marcia Beard did just that with her own and Charlotte Scott's, 'Kolbeach Circus' that won the class for Lightweight Galloway 14-14.2hh, and went on to brave the storm and claim the Galloway Championship.

Nellie Evans from Wyong in NSW is pictured riding 'Marena Macquarie' at the rather damp beginning of the famous Melbourne Royal Garryowen Equestrienne turnout competition.

Rachel Keskinen rode her lovely , 'Request' that worked beautifully despite the early heavy rain to take sixth place in the Garryowen at the 2011 Royal Melbourne Show.

2002 Garryowen winner, Rebecca Farrow is pictured riding Roz Lipp's beautiful 'Kholo' to third place in the Garryowen on a very wet Melbourne September morning.
